Amaya is a proud Clark County resident and a passionate nursing student at Chamberlain University. She recently received Clark County Credit Union’s Smart Start Scholarship and was also recognized during Nurses Week—a reflection of her dedication to both her studies and the healthcare field.
“I joined CCCU because of my parents,” she shared. “They’ve always spoken so highly of the credit union, especially about how supportive and community-focused it is. Once I started nursing school, I knew I wanted to be part of a financial institution that actually cares about its members—especially students like me.”
For Amaya, nursing isn’t just a career choice, it’s a calling. “I’ve always felt drawn to helping others,” she said. “Being a nurse means being a source of comfort during people’s hardest moments, and I want to be someone my patients can trust and rely on.” She hopes to specialize in women’s health or wound care and eventually become a nurse practitioner.
Being awarded the Smart Start Scholarship came at a perfect time. “Nursing school can be incredibly stressful—emotionally and financially,” she said. “Receiving this scholarship lifted such a weight off my shoulders. It reminded me that I’m not doing this alone. CCCU believes in students like me, and that’s something I’ll never forget.”
Outside the classroom, Amaya makes it a point to stay balanced and grounded. Whether it’s spending quality time with friends and family or getting involved in her community, she values connection and support—just like the kind she receives from CCCU. “I use their online banking all the time, and their blogs and financial tips have helped me a lot as a student,” she added. “It’s not just about banking—it’s about learning how to manage your future.
