Clark County Credit Union has long been a political advocate for measures benefitting our member/owner account holders. As part of our mission to strengthen and protect member finances, we look to support public office holders and legislation that protects our non-profit status. CCCU representatives travel to Washington, D.C. annually to engage with 5,000 other credit union reps and visit our Congressional delegation at the Governmental Affairs Conference.

Scammers are always looking for new ways to steal other people's money. One of the more recent scams is an automated caller asking, "Can you hear me now?", or "I'm sorry. There was a problem with my headset. Are you there?" It seems their goal is to get you to say "yes".
These calls are illegal. The best thing to do if you receive a call like this is to just hang up.
For more tips about how to handle these types of calls, and to see more scam examples, visit the FTC's website.

Last week several credit unions got together to volunteer in the kitchen at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. We had volunteers from Clark County Credit Union, Silver State Schools, Weststar, InTouch and America First.
Most of these credit unions belong to the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Nevada-California Credit Union Leagues. The Leagues are committed to helping credit union's change people's lives by staying on top of the latest legislative updates, regulatory action, political news, compliance, financial education and news.
Three of the Southern Nevada Chapter's board positions are filled by CCCU employees: Mo Nemati is Chapter President, Christie Jordan is Chapter Treasurer, and Julie Goe is Chapter Secretary.

| Why my hound dog and I love CCCU By Yasmin Bach Here I am with my Service Dog, Doctor Watson, and Deb Walker, K9 trainer from Roseburg, Oregon, trainer for the 2017 Oregon Truffle Festival. Behind us is the lush Truffle Patch at the Blue Rooster Bed and Breakfast in Eugene, Oregon. In the vintage, charming farmhouse decorated with tiny led lighting, people and their dogs are enjoying a relaxing box-lunch, following an invigorating truffle-hunt through the woods. (Doctor Watson had sniffed out six truffles, it was thrilling!) So...why the photo of people wearing muddy boots, hanging onto a Bloodhound...and what's with the truffle-talk? The reason is, that, for me, this trip was a victory. I live with Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Degenerative Disc Disease, Narcolepsy, and...well...just about everything short of Creeping Crud! I've survived open-heart surgery, cancer, cancer and tumor surgeries, those scary post-surgery infections, and more. On one of the best days of my life, I was given a young, beautiful, very large Bloodhound, whom I promptly named Doctor Watson. A neighbor, Stephen, an Air Force Pilot, promptly took him in hand to train him for my Service Dog needs. It was last September when I came across the Oregon Truffle Festival (OTF) site, and, despite my chronic pain, leg weakness, and balance issues, I was overcome with an overwhelming desire to take part in the Festival's 2017 Truffle Dog Training Event in Eugene, Oregon. The lovely lady, April, who had given me Doctor Watson, had become a good friend. Learning of my longing to take part in this event, she gifted us with OTF tickets for the Truffle Dog Training event. I was overjoyed...and then, challenged with finding a way to get us from Las Vegas to Eugene, Oregon, and back. I needed plane tickets, hotel reservations, more things. I wracked my brain, thinking, "How...how...?". After weeks of brainstorming, I took a deep breath, picked up my phone, and dialed my CCCU. When I spoke with my Credit Union rep about this anticipated trip, and what I needed, she was kind, interested, even excited about this opportunity, telling me she would look into raising my VISA limit, and call me back. No more than a few minutes later, my phone rang...and I gasped in joy when I got the word: My Credit Union was going to make this trip possible!! What my CCCU did for me, was to give me a gift that's difficult to put into words: I would be flying to Eugene with my beloved Bloodhound, taking part in seminars, meeting wonderful people (and their dogs), and enjoying delectable truffle-laden meals at the Eugene Hilton, the hub of the OTF Event, which sported lovely dog-friendly rooms. I felt empowered, reborn. And I'm writing again, as I did before the years of seemingly unending medical challenges occupied my days, my nights, my thoughts and hopes. This would not have been possible without my CCCU. My Credit Union did not see "disabled" when they looked at me. They saw me as a person, a woman who just happens to live with disabilities. You don't get that from for-profit banks, lenders, or corporations. And so, I'm rebuilding my writing career. Did the exertions of this trip affect me physically? For sure! I'm recovering from a humdinger of a flare-up. But I DID that wonderful trip, and I AM recovering. I'm organizing my accumulated stacks of screenplays, scripts, books and articles. I am especially focusing on writing for organizations that reach out to those enduring illnesses, disabilities, challenges, obstacles. I want to reach out to them, tell them, don't give up, don't give in, don't stop believing, never stop fighting. And always, hold on tight to hope. I want to say, to my Credit Union: Thank you, with all my heart, for making this life-changing trip possible. Thank you for over fifteen years of being MY Credit Union! |
