CCCU HELOC Provides Debt Relief for Member Ann P.
When the pandemic and a difficult divorce left Ann P. in credit card debt for the first time in her life, she found herself talking to debt consolidation companies and looking for personal loans. With 20 years of experience in the financial industry, Ann saw a lot of red flags when talking to the debt consolidation businesses. She said, “They wanted you to be late on payments before they would help you, and then recommended that I close my lines of credit. I knew from my banking experience that this would hurt my credit in the long run – they weren’t offering me solutions that would help me down the road, and I knew there had to be better options.”  Ann contacted Clark County Credit Union about a personal loan to consolidate her debts, but after hearing about her situation, one of our Branch Managers referred her to our Home Equity Line of Credit team. As a homeowner whose home had appreciated in value, Ann could qualify for more money at a better rate using a HELOC to draw on the equity in her home to then pay off her high-rate credit card bills.  Since Ann had been in the financial industry for so long, she needed to work with someone with equal knowledge to provide the answers to her detailed questions. Jennifer Bernier at CCCU helped Ann run all the calculations first and showed her the available options, all before Ann even applied.   Ann said, “Jennifer took the time to sit down with me and work out all the numbers first before moving forward. She was heartfelt and cared about what happened to me. She even helped me get funded two or three days before Christmas, so I was able to buy presents for my children. This HELOC allowed me to consolidate all of my debt – saving about $1,400 a month and allowing me to also start paying down the principal at the same time.”  If you are a homeowner interested in opening a HELOC, please reach out to our team at 702-228-2228 or apply online.

How to Spot a Donation Scam: Protect Your Generosity
When disaster strikes, it’s natural to want to help, and charitable donations are a meaningful way to make a difference. However, scammers often prey on our compassion, attempting to trick us into sending money for fake causes. At CCCU, we care about your security and urge you to be cautious with donation requests. Here’s why safety precautions matter when supporting a cause.  Look for Red Flags Scammers rely on emotional appeal to manipulate your sense of urgency, often using tragic events like wildfires or hurricanes to push you into acting impulsively. They may promise that your donation will provide immediate aid, but these requests often lack verifiable information. Always be skeptical of unsolicited calls, texts, or emails requesting donations.  Check the Details Pay attention to any unusual language, misspellings, or slight changes in the name of the charity. Scammers frequently alter real charity names or websites in subtle ways, hoping you won’t notice. If a request for donation seems off, it's worth investigating further.  Payment Methods Matter Legitimate charities typically accept a variety of donation methods, but scams often demand payment through non-refundable platforms or digital wallets. Never feel pressured to donate in an unusual way. You should always have the option to donate securely and via trusted methods.  Trust Your Instincts If something feels wrong, it probably is. Research the organization by looking for reviews or searching for “scam” or “complaints” alongside the charity’s name. Taking a moment to verify a request can save you from losing money and protect your personal information.  Remember, your generosity should go toward making a real difference. To learn more about fraud protection, visit CCCU’s Fraud Protection Page. Stay safe and donate with confidence.

Holiday Cheer with Santa Cops Event!
CCCU staff joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation to bring holiday joy to local kids at their annual Santa Cops events. During the event, over 200 kids received a $150 shopping spree at Walmart and later this month, 66 additional kids will do the same at Macy’s. CCCU volunteers and local police officers from various area commands (Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson) teamed up to help each child find gifts and toys they will love, creating cherished memories during the holiday season.  Thank you to our volunteers for supporting our officers at the Santa Cops event and bringing joy to the families and children in Southern Nevada!
