CCCU Members Personify Community Giving We have the best members at Clark County Credit Union! We’d like to share with you more about two of our members doing good in the community, Clarke and Tracie Paris! Clarke Paris has been a member of CCCU since 1985 when he was hired at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) where he served as a Sergeant for 19 years. In 1994, he established a nonprofit organization known as Cops Racing Against Violence through Education or CRAVE. Clarke is no stranger to giving back to the community and through CRAVE he’s been able to educate thousands of local students. He also established a $10,000 annual scholarship that was funded by the LVMPD employees, designed for students who dedicate their time helping our community. Clarke was not alone in his efforts to improve our community – his wife Tracie Paris, a registered nurse, has also been very involved with local Breast Cancer Awareness efforts. From 1998 to 2003, she hosted large banquets for the organization and helped raise thousands towards Breast Cancer research every year. Looking to accomplish more through their community efforts, the Paris Family created and produced an award-winning documentary on police stress and suicide called “The Pain Behind the Badge.” They also wrote two books on the topic, one of which went on to become required reading at Minnesota State University. Not only has their work given light to our community, but the Paris’ have given nearly 700 presentations on stress management and suicide prevention around the world. One of their latest accomplishments is the creation of another scholarship geared toward children of first responders who have taken their own lives. Airman Nicolas A. Paris, United States Air Force, son of Clarke and Tracie Paris says, “Everything my parents do either benefits Southern Nevada, or represents our community in a favorable light. People see that Las Vegas is not comprised solely of casinos but rather great people who are not only making Southern Nevada, but America, better.” Through their documentary, presentations and scholarships, the Paris family have touched the lives of many Southern Nevadans, and we are grateful for their dedication, time and talents. “My parents have continually given more to Southern Nevada than they have taken for more than 25 years,” said Nicolas. From all of us here at CCCU, thank you to the Paris Family for all you do for our community. We are proud to have first responders and nurses like you in our CCCU Family! If you or someone you know goes above and beyond for our community, please send in your nomination via email at marketing@ccculv.com and they could be featured in an upcoming member newsletter.

Think Before Your Click Phishing and email fraud has increased by 65% in the past year and on average 30% of phishing messages get opened by targeted users. Below are a few ways to help protect yourself and the credit union from these attacks: Protect your Personal Information: - To protect yourself from falling victim to a phishing scam, it's important to be very cautious with your personal information including your usernames and passwords.
- Some phishing scams divert you to a fraudulent website designed to look like your bank's website or a similar trusted source.
- When you enter your username/password and other information, that information is transmitted to the con artist, who can abuse it later on.
Beware of Suspicious Emails and Do not Click Suspicious Links: - Be very suspicious of any emails you receive from trusted entities like your bank.
- If the email contains a link, don't click on it.
- Deceptive links that mimic legitimate URL addresses are a common tools con artists use in phishing scams.
- While these addresses may look official, they usually contain inconspicuous differences that redirect you to a fraudulent site.
- Instead of clicking on the link, type in the web address of the institution into the browser to access the website.
Know the Common Phishing Language: - Look out for common phishing language in emails like "Verify your account."
- Legitimate businesses will not send you an email to ask for your login information or sensitive personal information.
- Also, look out for emails that try to convey a sense of urgency.
- Warnings that your account has been compromised, for example, are a common way to lure victims. Again, contact the company directly to inquire about such emails rather than using any link or other contact information provided in the email.
- Finally, be wary of any email that does not address you directly.
- While some phishing scams will use your name in the email, many are sent out as spam messages to thousands at a time.
- Most legitimate businesses will use your first and/or last name in all communication.

Meet Denise Spina from our Windmill Branch Denise is one of the friendly faces you will see at our Windmill Branch! She was originally hired as a teller and has seen the credit union grow tremendously since she was hired 38 years ago. Her forte has always been member service. “I love helping the members,” Denise said. “When they have a problem, I love solving it. The credit union is so great because we care about the little guy, we’re really here to help people.” Denise has worked in multiple departments within the credit union including a time where she worked in the real estate department. When the credit union was restructured back in 1995, Denise left a teller position to become a branch manager. “That was quite interesting - I actually went home and cried because I couldn’t believe I was talked into that,” she said. “But I never looked back, and it was the best decision I never really knew I made.” After learning that the credit union had purchased the lot where our Windmill branch now stands, Denise decided to interview for a position there. She loves the fact that she can walk down her driveway, cross the street and see the big teal CCCU sign. “I actually live three minutes away from Windmill, and I usually get to go home for lunch,” she said. Even after 38 years with the credit union, Denise continues to be motivated by our members, the friendships and the lifelong relationships she’s developed throughout the years with co-workers. Denise says, “The people here motivate me to come to work every day, and the fact that I still learn something new day in and day out is very motivating.”

Jowai Lee is the President, Majority Owner and General Manager of Joyful House Chinese Restaurant. Ms. Lee recently refinanced a commercial loan with CCCU. “We learned about CCCU’s Commercial Banking Services through our business consulting firm, Enkempes,” explained Ms. Lee. “CCCU’s process was seamless, efficient, and on-point, it truly was the best lending experience we’ve ever had.” Ms. Lee says that she ultimately decided on CCCU for the commercial loan because of the service and accommodations provided during the commercial loan process. “We knew that they truly cared about delivering the best customer service to their members and that’s all that we have been looking for in a primary financial institution,” she said. Ms. Lee’s refinance with CCCU saved her a tremendous amount of money and has helped clear the path to owning the building in which the restaurant has operated since 1996. “We absolutely would recommend CCCU to other small businesses because they genuinely put their member’s best interest first,” she said. “Banking with them gives us the benefit of both worlds, amazing service and great products. Their attention to detail and willingness to listen are the reasons a member can truly feel special for banking with them.” If you’d like more information on growing and expanding your business, contact CCCU at 702-228-2228 for more information on our commercial loan products.
